yuletide letter 2020

hi! this is my first year doing yuletide, although i've known about it for years. really excited to see what this time around brings!
this is probably going to be a faaaiirly short letter as, like i said, i've never done one before. but i hope it gives you some helpful ideas of things i like/don't like and maybe a prompt you'd enjoy writing! thank you very much in advance. i've requested the locked tomb trilogy, emma (2020), and anne of green gables, so SPOILERS FOR THOSE BELOW.

general likes:
happy with fic of any rating, but i prefer any smut to be as much about the feelings/personalities of the characters as about any actual sex :)
general DNWs: rape/non-con; dub-con (unless specifically prompted) - this can include things like bodyswap, deception, or mistaken identities if sex becomes involved, so maybe steer clear of those things overlapping to be safe; sexual content including or sexual descriptions of underage characters (underage=under 18), graphic torture; terminal illness, major character death (unless consistent with canon), formal/lifestyle BDSM (including non-sexual variants); A/B/O; scat/watersports; asexual headcanons (unless specifically prompted); polyamory (unless specifically prompted); de-aging fic; descriptions of childbirth; soulmate/soulmark aus; teacher/student aus; harry potter aus; fic focused on politics/current events/social issues (background discussion okay if relevant)
1. The Locked Tomb trilogy by Tasmyn Muir
Characters nominated: Mercymorn the First, Augustine the First
i read Gideon the Ninth in February, and then Harrow the Ninth when it came out - i'm really obsessed with this trilogy and everything it has to say about duty, love, history, empire, and OF COURSE jokes. these characters in particular have a long and very fraught history (10,000 years of war crimes, hating each other, and concocting convoluted schemes). i think all of that is very sexy and VERY romantic. they hate each other very tenderly:

i would really like a fic exploring these character's relationship before or during HtN canon. like i said i think their whole deal is super romantic and very compelling, but you can keep the fic canon-level platonic if that's what you'd prefer! i just like them a lot, i like when they argue, i like when they work together, and most of all i like how both of them are so deeply obsessed with themselves, each other, and people who died 10,000 years ago, to the exclusion of a lot else.
here are some prompts/suggestions:
if you want to include other characters in this fic that's totally fine, especially if you include the other lyctors or especially alfred and cristabel, who i am fascinated by. for this request the general DNW on polyamory is lifted due to the general sexual weirdness of all the lyctors and the improbability of mercy and augustine ever being in an actual relationship, let alone a monogamous one. plus, i must repeat: ulysses' sexy parties
fandom-specific DNWs: smut where john gaius is present, afterlife fics, alternate universes that divorce the characters from their context
2. Emma (2020)
Characters nominated: Emma Woodhouse, George Knightley
this film was the last film i saw in cinema before lockdown, and it was worth it!! i was really excited for this movie and it delivered - the lush costumes and settings, the casting, the acting. what i really love about the story of emma is how emma develops empathy and caring for others outside herself and her father over the course of the story, plus of course the pining/yearning and miscommunication, and the DANCING. ana taylor joy and johnny flynn were excellent, and i especially liked this casting because it made the canonical age gap much less obvious and therefore more bearable. i love emma and knightley's banter and jibes when contrasted with the way they genuinely care for one another and what the other thinks of them.
here are some suggestions/prompts:
i'd also like if you wanted to have some harriet or jane in the fic as i adore them both!
fandom-specific DNWs: pregnancy or fic where they have children together (their niece baby emma making an appearance is fine and encouraged!), if you make knightley a woman please don't give him a new feminine name
3. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Characters nominated: Anne Shirley, Gilbert Blythe
i read anne of green gables as a kid and recently reread it this year (plus anne of avonlea and anne of the island) and fell right back into the dreamy, compassionate world! i love anne as a character and i love her relationship with gilbert, the way they talk to each other, how stubborn and oblivious anne is about their feelings for each other. i also more widely love how anne relates to the world, her obsession with stories and how her imagination and inherent pragmatism interact. anything you write that is focused on anne will be well-received!
some suggestions/prompts:
if you also wanted to include diana and some focus on diana and anne's friendship, that would be lovely!

- maybe working together in the war against blood of eden or fighting resurrection beasts (if it's helpful, i have put together a spreadsheet/timeline of all the references to RBs in HtN) as "casefic"
- times when they were previously at the mithraeum together - dinners, duels, ulysses' sexy parties that mercymorn hates?
- how did they come to plan dios apate? whose idea was it - what went into planning it - did they have to practice? was there blocking, and lines? i really want to know anything and everything about this process
- running into each other accidentally and being like oh my GOD why is the WHOLE UNIVERSE so SMALL
- i would also really like any scenes from or speculation about what happened when all the OG lyctors and cavaliers were at canaan house - what happened with alfred and cristabel? what were they all working on, and how did it all come together - what were some of the other lyctor trials apart from those we saw in GtN? i'd also love just any slices of life. maybe this is another opportunity for ulysses' sexy parties to shine
- i don't think any full-on alternate universes would work here because of the specificity of their dynamic, but if you feel the urge to write a canon divergence fic that could work - maybe one or both of them get caught in a time loop when ( spoilers )

(if you do this please keep the romantic element, if you want to write platonically about them that's fine but leave them as they are in canon) canon-era/modern/other kinds of au would be fine for this, i would just really love to read about emma and knightley being lesbians! "if i loved you less, i might be able to talk about it more" is extremely relatable in my experience
- slice of life - arguments/banter! how do they deal with sharing a house with emma's father? do either of them get jealous?
- emma and knightley - In Space!
- what if emma and knightley were EXES and got back together?
i'd also like if you wanted to have some harriet or jane in the fic as i adore them both!

- if you wanted to write more of an au, maybe a historical/fantasy au based on some of anne's stories/imaginings!
